For many people, psychiatric medication is a vital part of managing a mental health condition and reclaiming quality of life. But starting a medication is just the beginning — ongoing, attentive monitoring and management is what makes medication truly effective and safe over time.
At Bright and Associates, LLC, our board-certified psychiatrists and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) provide thoughtful, personalized medication management for adults, adolescents, and children throughout Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, and the greater Twin Cities metro. We don’t just prescribe and walk away — we stay closely involved in your care, tracking your progress, addressing concerns, and making adjustments so your treatment continues to work as your needs evolve.
Ongoing medication management at Bright and Associates includes regular follow-up appointments with your psychiatric provider to:
• Monitor your response to current medication — what’s working, what isn’t, and how you’re tolerating it
• Assess and address side effects promptly
• Adjust dosages as needed based on your progress and clinical picture
• Evaluate whether a medication change or addition is warranted
• Review any new symptoms, life changes, or stressors that may affect your treatment
• Coordinate with your therapist, primary care provider, or other specialists
• Refill prescriptions in a timely, organized manner
The frequency of follow-up appointments is tailored to where you are in your treatment. Early in the process, appointments are typically more frequent — often monthly — and may move to quarterly as your medication regimen stabilizes and you’re doing well.
• Major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder
• Generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety
• Bipolar disorder (Types I and II) and cyclothymia
• Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) — adults and children
• Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders
• Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
• Borderline personality disorder
• Sleep disorders
• Co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
We believe medication decisions should never be made in a vacuum or handed down without dialogue. At every appointment, your provider will explain their reasoning, discuss your options, and invite your input. You are an active participant in your own treatment — not a passive recipient of it.
We also understand that medications affect people differently based on genetics, medical history, lifestyle, and other factors. Our providers take a careful, individualized approach — starting conservatively, monitoring closely, and making changes thoughtfully rather than reactively.
Research consistently shows that for most mental health conditions, the combination of medication and psychotherapy produces better outcomes than either treatment alone. At Bright and Associates, our psychiatric team works in close coordination with our licensed therapists — sharing information, aligning on treatment goals, and providing truly integrated care under one roof. If you’re already working with one of our therapists, adding medication management is seamless. If you’re new to the clinic, we can match you with a therapist who complements your psychiatric care.
Medication management follow-up appointments are available via telehealth for Minnesota residents throughout the state — making it easy to stay on track with your care without having to travel to our Brooklyn Center clinic for every visit. Telehealth medication management is covered by most major insurance plans.
